Mentoring Skills

This course is designed to support professionals who are seeking to establish a Mentoring programme in an organisation, enterprise or within an educational institution i.e. in a school, college, adult education, or in a public body associated with the delivery of education.


​​The mentoring training programme adopts the ECVET principles to reflect the learning outcomes and assessment criteria as a basis to certificate that learners have attained the standard required.

Objectives

The aim of this course is to provide practical application of a staff mentoring programme in the educational sector and its theoretical underpinning.  By the end of the course you will be able to:

  • Distinguish between mentoring, managing, coaching, advising, training and use the various interventions most appropriately;

  • Set up, manage and run the most fitting mentoring programme within your organisation;

  • Be proficient in the fundamental skills required to mentor others;

  • Use appropriate coaching tools to structure your mentoring activities;

  • Use all the forms relevant to your mentoring practice;

  • Coach/mentor your mentees by understanding their needs; by challenging them; supporting them and encouraging their development.

Methodology

 

Our courses, developed in the framework established by the Erasmus+ Programme, are crafted to include both formal and non-formal education methodologies. Starting with a theoretical approach to the theme of the course, we proceed with non-formal learning strategies in order to guarantee and stimulate an active contribution from the participants involved. In practice, we use: Presentations; Analysis of study cases; Discussions in the classroom; Role-plays; Technical visits to local private and public institutions; Conferences with local professionals to exchange good practices; Job shadowing experiences; Workshops to rethink old practices and introduce new ones.

Preparation

Prior to the start of the course, participants will receive a detailed programme outlining the content and structure of the course, as well as recommended reading and viewing material relevant to the course contents. They will also receive practical information about Wolverhampton, including maps, places of interest and accommodation.

Certifications

We will hand out:

  • Certificate of attendance, which will include title of course, main training content and dates;
